I'm trying to figure out what wireless networking equipment I'll need to network an apple I-book with no wifi card and a dell laptop with a mini pci true-mobile 802.11b wifi card. I haven't any experience in setting up a wireless network. I'm not sure how everything is supposed to fit together.

My limited thinking...
Cable modem wired to wireless .11b router, then is it possible to connect the mac wired to the router, and connect the dell wirelessly to the router? Do wireless routers have a port for a wired NIC? Am I going to need a wired router and a wireless AP to connect these two machines?

I'd like to buy as few devices as possible to get the network established.

Any ideas for my situation?
BTY, The PC runs XP pro and the mac runs OS X
thanks!

I don't use MACs. But I think they comply with TCP/IP communications in which case a wireless + 4 port router will connect both devices to the internet and each other. Check with the vendor before you buy.

Thanks for your feedback. I have an extra 4 port router. So my question is, should I buy an AP or a wireless router? I can find either for around the same price. I think it only makes sense for the same $ to get more fuctionality from a wireless router. Or are there differences in quality of operation between an AP and wifi router?

There is usually little difference between the AP and the AP/router. The router is better value.

But check it will work with MAC.
