WPC11 Card Does Not Communicate with BEFW11S4 (no WLAN)!!

I have a linksys version 1 router BEFW11S4. I have the LAN (Port 1) hooked up to my main PC which runs WIndows XP, computer name is jupiter and network name is solarsys. I get Internet Connection and everything is fine. Ipconfig shows it pulling an internal ip.....

WAn Ip address is fine and everything works on the desktop. Internet, FTP and so forth. TCP/IP settings are set to obtain everything automatically since I have DHCP enabled on the router. SSid is also solarsys and no encryption is set on the router for WEP. No Mac Filtering is enabled.

I also have a Win98 SE Laptop and a Linksys WPC11 PCMPCIA Card and I installed it and I setup the SSID to "solarsys", no encryption and ipconfig shows it pulling an ip of 192.168.0.101 and it shows the signal strenght as good in the configuration utility and link quality as good, around 70-80% for both and it shows the right DNS settings and Gateway and ROuter Ip of 192.168..0.1 which is the same settings as my desktop. However in Internet explorer, when I try to go to a url, it says in the bottom left of internet explorer status bar that "detecting proxy settings" and then after a while it times out. I have setup explorer so it never dials a dialup connection, I have setup under LAN settings so it bypasses proxy server and automatically detect settings has been checked on and off and it still does the same thing. AI have on the Laptop TCP/IP installed, Microsoft Network and my Wireless Network Adapter installed, TCP/IP binded to my Wireless Network Adapter, TCP/IP settings set to obtain IP automatically, and the TCP/Ip over Netbui or whatever is greyed out but it is check marked. I setup the network name is solarsys, and the laptop name is mars, and the desktop name is jupiter, and in network neighboorhood they do not detect each other. Once, and only once, the Jupiter Computer (the PC on the Wired network) did show up briefly but when I clicked it the Laptop eventually said cannot connect. But the Internet has never worked.




My desktop PC which is COnnected to the router has that ip address 192.158.1.100. And it works fine. Infact I am posting this thread using my Desktop PC right now. When I run ipconfig on my laptop I get exactly this

I do not know why you say that that cannot be the ip, my router assigns internal ips starting from 192.158.1.100, there is a configuration option to specify where the ip starts and it's default is .100 and up, so the 1st PC has a 100 ending and the laptop has a 101, why cannot this be right I do not understand???

Thats fine, I think I see now.
You're making what I assume now is a few typing errors. Your original post stated an IP of "192.168.100" which I assume was meant to be "192.168.1.100" As you say 192.168.1.100 is just what you would expect.

There is nothing I see wrong with the NIC settings you are getting from the router except the node type on the XP PC should show broadcast.

I don't know what your "TCP/Ip over Netbui" is. You should have Netbios over TCP/IP enabled on both PCs.

You could also check these:
- ALL PCs have network shares defined directly under c:.
- MS Client and file & printer sharing are checked on each NIC.
- XP's ICF firewall is permanently disabled.
- All 3rd party firewalls are disabled (until connection is working).

In IE settings you can uncheck 'bypass proxy server....etc'. It is not needed as long as 'use a proxy server....etc' is unchecked.

I have done all of the above and I still do not get an Internet Connection. I had no firewall installed and so forth.

Thats very strange (I guess you know that).

The laptop is correctly getting the settings from the DHCP server in the router, yet when you try to ping the router from the laptop it times out.

You might try other ping tests on the laptop:
ping 127.0.0.1
ping localhost

If either of these fail it can mean a problem with the card or driver or TCP/IP stack. You might check for the latest driver from Linksys and uninstall/re-install TCP/IP.
