Hi, I have a fairly simple setup that should work very easily but doesn't for some odd reason. I'm at university, and have a D-Link DWL-2000AP plugged into the ethernet port in my dorm room, where I would normally have a computer. It's set to have a dynamic IP address, and DHCP is disabled, as the university's server acts as a DHCP server. WEP is disabled, but I have MAC filtering enabled. My wireless card is the only MAC address entered that it will allow to connect. I connect to it using an Orinoco Gold card. Before I came to the dorm I tried it out and it worked fine for hours on end, even at extreme ranges. Now, however, the service is very intermittent. I can connect, surf the web etc for about 10 minutes, until I suddenly lose the connection. The only way to pick it back up again is by turning off the AP, leaving it for half an hour, and powering it back up again. Then the same thing happens all over again. I was going to install a firmware update, but my AP was purchased in the UK, and the US website has a warning that these firmware updates are for US products only. The UK website has no firmware issues. What's going on??
Thanks very much
p.s. The bundled software D-Link configuration software cannot find the AP to configure it, for some reason, neither wirelessly or hard-wired. Since the AP has a dynamic IP address, I cannot feasibly use the web config utility either. Help??
