Hi,
Am just setting up a basic WiFi network at my fathers new small office.
I seem to be having some odd problems.
The setup
2 x WinXP Home PCs'
1 x Netgear ADSL Router & Wireless Gateway Combo
2 x USB WiFi Adaptors
1 x ADSL line
Have set-up the PC's with 'standard' (and unique!) 192.168.0.x IP adresses, the gateway is set at 192.168.0.1.
I have managed to get the ADSL internet connection shared using the wireless USB cards and the Netgear router - very painless.
My fathers office is in a small office block, so I decided that I should enable the option in the Netgear Router to only allow access to the router from trusted MAC addresses. This works fine, both WiFi NICs are now set up as trusted.
The problem is that, whilst I can ping the ADSL router from either machine (and browse the web), I cannot ping either PC from the other.
More worringly, I have a Shared directory appearing in the My Network places which is NOT on either PC. I can see files which are not mine.
This feels like there is some kind of conflict going on here between my network and another wireless netowk in the building. Can anyone think of a good way forward?
Thanks
Jim
