I was wondering if anyone knew of a portable, or very small wireless access point, or another solution to my problem. I have a Toshiba e740 pda, and want access at my university. Obviously, I need something very small, either designed to be portable, or just a tight little design. Size is more important to me than function (as long as it works in some fashion). I would like to be able to plug it into the ethernet connection (in the library), and then browse wirelessly. And no, my crappy university doesn't have a wireless network. And yes, they probably wouldn't think too highly of me broadcasting their network all over the place, however, I am comfortable with this. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I would visit net stumbler.com, you can setup a WAP for under $100. As for the university I would be willing to bet they wouldn't even know it. Furthermore, if you can go into the library and connect a WAP I would be willing to bet it's on a different subnet and you probably couldn't do any damage even if you tried.

Thanks for the reply, but I am a little confused. Maybe I didn't navigate the netstumbler.com site properly, but I couldn't seem to find either a) a place to purchase WAP's, and b) neither could I find information regarding portable WAP's. Maybe I didn' t make it clear what my problem is. I am not interested in "stumbling" or even stealing access, all I want is a legitimate way to broadcast my universities access, so that I can pick it up on my PDA. I want to make their network airborne, in order to access it on my PDA. All the information I saw on the netstumbler.com page was in regards to antennas and the like, I have the opposite problem of the stumblers, I need a way of making the access airborne, not the problem of recieving already airborne access. One further question, do you think that it would be possible to hook up a WAP and gain access if my university has a access executable/applet that requires you to enter in user id/password? Have I looked at the wrong place of the netstumbler.com site? I couldn't even find this $100 WAP you spoke of. Thanks!
