I am having a hard time increasing the security on my smc 7004awbr with orinco silver card on an xp notebook.

I increased the wep to 64. This worked ok, but the connection was lost every two or three minutes. So I have returned to no wep, and it works fine.

Second, I disabled dhcp. I then clicked in to wireless advanced, and tried to add the ip addresses listed in the smc setup program, and also the dns server ips, but it wouldn't connect. So I returned to automatic, and all is fine again.

I have mac enabled, so I have a little security that actually works.

Any ideas to help me make wep and manual ip work? Do I need this increased level of security? Or is Mac access enough?

My neighbour's network shows up on my box, so I assume mine shows on his.

You might want to check if your hardware supports WPA from microsoft. That might be a safe alternative for WEP.

it doesn't support wpa as far as I can tell.
