HELP!!

Running XP Home on my Desktop (DT) and XP Pro (OEM installed) on my new
Notebook (NB). Networked through a Netgear 614 Router/Switch. Both
connections can and do access broadband cable perfectly. Both PC's can see
each other via My Network Places perfectly, with SharedDocs, etc. all
listed. All firewalls are shut down. The DT can access AND transfer
anything from the NB. My problem is that the NB CAN'T do this. It cannot
get anything from the fully displayed DT.

What I get is an error message that says that "...\SharedDocs is not
accessible". Further it states: "Not enough server storage is available to
process this command."

I have no idea what this means or how to deal with it. Would appreciate any
help I can get from you all. It seems that I am only 'one setting' away
from a sound network setup.

Thanks.

I don't know exactly what the cause is. But I have heard others report this problem. There is a similar problem with NT described here - may be the same with XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;225782

It seems it may be caused by an application not returning memory to pool resources. A reboot may clear the situation temporarily until pool becomes low again.

Thanks for the interest and fast response.

Followed '225782'. XP Homehas the key, set to 11. XP Pro didn't have the key. Added it and tried all values between 4 and 11 to no avail, with and without Norton Anti Virus installed.

With it uninstalled (!), on boot of XP Pro NB, it reports: "Attention: Access denied, drive C: (???)

It does sounds as though your Norton AV may be a problem. What version are you running?
See this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;286601

If all the software is OEM installed I would suggest you contact their support as they may know of a configuration issue.

(NB I run Norton AV (2002 I think) with XP Home with no problems)

Wanted to inform you that the problem is solved. You were instrumental in suggestions of 'What next'. Here are the details: spent a lot of time at Symantec web site. Turns out that you were right, NAV is part of the problem and even adds some of its own. In my case, they were able to point me to dis- and reenabling my Norton Recycle Bin. This made the Access Violation notice go away! Then as you suggested I went to Dell Support and posted pretty much the same note as I did in this forum. I got a prompt reply back from them, that tied right back to IRPStackSize, with the following URL:

http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNotEnoughServerStorage.htm

Also the referenced tech note therein:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q177078

The bottom line is that the max value for WinXP is 50!! Not 12 as it was for NT. I had limited my earlier efforts to 12. 15 works like a champ and I am finally in business in both directions.

I wanted to make sure I could contribute something to your knowledge base too. Thanks again.
