Conexant just announced it's made the innards of what vendors could turn into the first routers that support a homeplug network.

HomePlug has not seen a huge push in the mainstream market (tho many think coupling HopePlug with 802.11 to extend the range of wireless networks might be what gets it going) -- does the thought of being able to share your Internet connection over the powerlines in your house make you want to try it out?

I actually work at a retail computer store and I am responsible for the networking area. My job is to make sure that our customers get what they need, and that they understand what they are getting into. I actually tend to stear customers away from the powerline, or home phoneline networking solutions, bc I see them as leaving more room for potential problems. I guess I am an electrician at heart, and see that having so many things going through one wire as a problem. You could have as much as normal phone, dsl, and then a home network all going over one cable. I usually push customers going either the normal wired route for stability and wireless if they have labtops they want to network also. Now the situation you suggested as using the technolgy to actually setup another wireless access point is interesting, and I think for certain situations where a cable could not be easily ran, it could be a viable solution. I still have my doubts about powerline networks, when they seem to cost just a little less then wireless, I dont see the benifits.
