Hello,

I'm new on this forum. But I already have a question:
I'm having trouble with my internet-connection. I've got 2 network-cards and lan is working properly. If I try "ipconfig /renew" I get something like 'An other operation than socket has been performed on a socket-object' I tried to uninstalling TCP/IP, but without success. I tried "netshnetsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt" but without any result. The internet-connection worked properly and I'm sure my that specific ISP internet settings are correct (meaning Automatic configuration script and proxy server, I'm using a cable modem). I tried my internet-connection on my laptop and that worked, so it's not my ISP. The only thing I can imagen is: i tried to install Kazaa and refused register modification through lavasoft add-aware. My major problem is I can't uninstall Kazaa without connection to the internet.
Is there anyone who can tell me how to reinstall tcp/ip without reinstalling windows XP

tnx,
Jannick

You might not have any other choices here... When XP networking goes "South", it's usually not coming home... The following thread might at least provide you some comfort in knowing that you are not alone...

First, you cannot uninstall TCP/IP on XP.
I guess you followed this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;299357
Thats all you can do.

Anyway, get rid of Kazza. If your XP is still on defaults it has restore points working and you can find a restore point prior to Kazza and get rid of it.

I tried the steps in the article on my hobbling notebook. It reset all the settings for DHCP (including wiping out my working static settings for the wireless NIC), but did nothing for the malfunctioning ethernet adapter...

As usual... Your mileage will vary with Microsoft. Just try going through their PPTP setup articles, if you have some time to burn...

I was able to fix this problem: It was McAfee Antivirus. My trail version was expired. After uninstalling mcafee and running WinsockXPFix everything worked just fine.
Thanx for the effort.

Odd that anti-virus software would do that... Crazy world.:p

You lucked out! I tried the same path as you described, but still no luck on the hobbling notebook system. The WinsockXPFix utility appears to be a more automated version of what Greenstead pointed out. Same results... All my configurations were reset, but the difficulties still remain.

I suggest you uninstall everyprogram that is loaded at start-up. Also check your services. I believe there's something in there that McAfee uses. To be sure (except for services), run msconfig-->startup pane. Uncheck everything you don't recognise.

I hope that this will do the trick

It's a little more twisted on this notebook. I do have a wireless NIC that works fine. My other wireless NICs and it's built-in ethernet NIC will not work... It's a little deeper here...
