hey guys, im finally getting an additional coputer, and the room im putting it in is about 30, 35 feet away from my main computer (where the cable modem is). i was thinking of getting a wireless router (suggestions, please) and (i dont know if i can do this or not) wiring from the router to the main pc, then getting a wireless pci card like the wmp11 (or suggestions, please), which i would install in the new pc. will this work? if not, what can you guys recommend?
also, i have a ps2 in the room with the new computer. i want to enable it to play online, possibly with a linksys wga11b wireless-b game adapter. its been a pain disconnecting my connection on this pc, running a 50 ft cat5 cable into the room, and hooking that up to a usb adapter :(
thanks for taking the time to help guys, really appreciate it

So finally on the networking! :D
Get this one as a router:
http://www.linksys.com/splash/wrt54g_splash.asp
Get this one for pc 2, in the remote room:
http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=36&prid=520
And maybe a normal network card for the pc that's in the room with the router.
In this case you get maximum wireless speed and full compatibility.
If the costs are too high, there are ofcourse cheaper solutions.

hmm, 130 for router, 70 for new-pc's card...plus a regular card (how much should that cost?)...cheaper solutions sound good right about now :( thanks for responding so quickly, too! really appreciate your help, and let me know any cheaper alternatives you may have in mind, thanks

that netgear router definitely fits the price, but what about quality/reliability? that pci card looks awful cheap too, and i've never heard of optimize, can it be trusted? if i went this route, would i need two of those pci cards? thanks guys, appreciate it

I thought about that when I saw that pci card. You could go higher quality with d-link, linksys, or netgear.
The router is great. It is what I am on right now. I havent had any problems with it.

alrighty...how far away are your computers in your network? i hope it will be alright, as the room is only like 25 feet away or so, but u have to go (from pc1 with router) right 10 feet, left 5 feet, right 5 feet, and then right 5 feet to get there. i dont know if that makes any sense or not, lol, but i tried.
how much of a difference is 54mbps and 11mbps? im pretty much set on the netgear, just makin sure cus i found some d-link equipment for cheaper (54 mbps router=80, 54mbps card=50). and could i "manually" lol wire the router to my main pc, pc1, since its so close, or should i still get a pci adapter as well for it?
thanks so much, really appreciate it

If it is close enought to be wired, you should probably do that. I have two laptops on my network. One is about 20 ft and gets excellent reception and the other is about 30 and gets very good reception.
Both of my laptops have 54mbps cards but the router is only 11mbps. When I set up an ad hoc network the 54 mbps is significantly faster. I sadly did not have the money to get a 54mbps router.
look here for speeds:

Dlink and netgear are both good

so, if i dont care about file sharing between the pc's ill be fine with 11 mbps, right? im just looking for internet speed that is comparable to what i already have. thanks again, appreciate it

Yes. On an 11mbps system you can usually expect about 2-3mbps. This is fine for broadband. I have a 3mbps cablemodem and it works great.
If you have a faster modem there is a new version of the 11b standard that runs at 22mbps. I havent heard much about it but if it does what it says it should run at about 5-6 mbps.
