I just bought the D-Link wireless 54MB pcmcia card DWL-A650. I can do everything on the network except access my shares on the laptop. Even locally on the laptop, if I try to access the shares on it, it gives me an access error. I have undone and re-created the shares, but nothing seems to work.. All this worked fine with the 11mbps wireless card.. Anyone have any ideas on how to make this work?

oops.. sorry if I put this in the wrong forum..

These cards are new so there's little experience with them. But there should no difference to any other NIC.

Heres a checklist to run thro to enable PCs to share resources:
Note : You only need one protocol (NetBT = Netbios over TCP/IP)
- All PCs have TCP/IP installed.
- All PCs have Netbios over TCP/IP enabled.
- All PCs have the same workgroup.
- All PCs have a unique computer name.
- All wireless devices have the same SSID.
- ALL PCs have network shares defined directly under c:.
- ALL NICS are on the same subnet (typically IP 192.168.0.* subnet 255.255.255.0).
- MS Client and file & printer sharing are checked on each NIC.
- All NICs have their node type = broadcast or Hydrid (check with Ipconfig /all).
- XP's ICF firewall is permanently disabled.
- All 3rd party firewalls are disabled (until connection is working).

You may think you have checked all these already but a quick run thro might reveal something.

Thanks Greenstead.. all seems to be right except the following..
How or where do I enable the Netbios over TCPIP in XP Pro?

On the XP PC go to Network Connections:
(START-> Connect to -> show all connections)

Highlight and Right click the wireless card connection -> click properties -> highllight TCP/IP->click properties -> check the buttons for 'Obtain an IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server address automatically'. Click Advanced -> Click WINS TAB -> check the button for 'Enable Netbios over TCP/IP'.
OK everything till all is closed out.
Reboot.

Thanks Greenstead.. It appears that it was the Netbios over TCPIP that was doing it.. strange tho... I didn't have to set that on any other machines, and I never had to do it with the 11mb wireless card.. it just used the default setting..
Thanks again.
