Hi.
I would like to connect 2 computers together so they are both on the net. I have DSL modem which plugs into my USB port. I want it so that when my computer is on and connected, the computer downstairs is on the internet also.
Could I just get 2 network cards to do this? Or will I need a router too?
Thanks in advance, John.

Two NIC’s in one PC are not needed using a USB DSL modem. Connect the modem to the host computer in the usual fashion. A NIC must be installed in each machine. If only running two computers, connect them with a cross over cat5 cable with rj-45 connectors. Get the two machines networked, THEN install ICS on the host machine. On the client machine set up your browser and programs to connect using a LAN.
If you have, or plan to have, more than two computers, do as described above, but use a straight thru wired cat5 cable connected to a hub or switch from the host machine. The devise will provide the cross over. Connect all client machines to the hubs/switches as needed. Make sure to run a firewall on the host machine.
