Hi everyone,

I need help on this one... I just bought a notebook computer that I could plug into the networks at home and at my office.

Unfortunately, the standards at both locations are quite different. At home, I run a peer to peer network that links two desktops and a printer together, and they both share an internet connection to a cable modem via a router/DHCP server. At work, the network is a domain-based one.

At present my notebook has been configured to work with the office network. Plugging my notebook into my home network allows me to connect to the internet but not to the other computers or printer in my home network.

Does anyone know what the solution might be? I need something that allows me to just plug into both networks without any major changes to the configuration each time I connect. All computers (including the notebook) are running Windows XP professional.

Thanks in advance.

We do exactly this with two company laptops we bring home. The laptop has a domain name which will be differnet to your home domain/workgroup.

When you try to access the home PCs you should be asked to authenticate (a popup box wanting ID and password). You have to use an ID and password that is valid on the PC you are accessing.

When you enter the ID use:
domain\userid - to access the work laop
or
workgroup\userid - to access a home PC.

Of course you must have network shares defined on all PCs.
