I have a wireless set up that I use at home on my laptop to connect with the rest of my network. I've set up the WAP (Belkin 6130)(and my network card, I suppose) with encryption, MAC filtering, special SSID name, and infrastructure. This is actually in the setup program for the WAP. (This is 801.11b.) I am also using assigned an assigned IP adress for the adapter, along with a gateway host IP address. What do I have to do to take my computer to areas where there is wireless access available. Will it run "as is" or will I have to reconfigure my network parameters and/or network card so it will work?

I do believe that in the coffee shop (bleah!) you will be able to "detect" their network and will just connect to it.

Under WinXP it will shop up in the list of available networks, I don't know about Win98.

You MIGHT have to turn off the encryption, I don't know if the OS will remember settings for each network.
