I just got the linksys WAP54G wireless access point. I love it, it works great.

I do have one issue with it.

The ACT light on the WLAN side is constantly blinking/flickering. Is this normal?

Is the light going to burn out soon?

It does this even when no computers are connected to it. I even unplugged it from my linksys BEFSR41 router and still, the light just flickers away.

I contacted linksys support and they said to unplug it wait 30 seconds then plug it back it. If that did not work, then reset it and unplug it for 30 seconds and then plug it back in.

I followed thier instructions with no luck.

I even tried upgrading the firmware with no success.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You In Advance,
Brian Weber

It should flicker only when it is sending or receiving wireless data.

Does it still flicker if you disconnet everything from the AP and turn off all your wireless PCs?

Maybe you have another wireless LAN near you trying to talk to it. Does it have a log of transmissions you could check to see if it is receiving from something.

Yes, it is still blinking when I unplug everything from AP and turn off all the wireless pc's.

I will activate the log and see if it logs transmissions.

Hopefully something will show up in the log.

I contacted linksys again and they it will not harm the AP if they are always blinking.

I have had the same problem since day one. The Act light is continually blinking, even with no activity. I've considered putting black tape over it.

I have also been experiencing the connection dropping and reconnecting intermitently. This happens on a variety of connections. Any thoughts?

You might want to try changing channels.

If you wanted to see if another AP was located near you and was the source of the problem, you can download Network Stumbler at

It works pretty good.
