hello all, i have just gotten a Belkin F5D5230-4 cable router, i have two PC running windows XP Pro....and IIS service and i am able to share the 2 PC's with a single cable modem internet connection, i am able to share and transfer files from both PC's back and forth, and view FTP and WEB sites from both PC's
i have 2 seperate IP address from the router for each PC,
192.168.x.x -192.168.x.x and a wide area ip of 67.85.x.x
i am having trouble letting my friends access my sites ...called belkin tech support they said helped me set up my Virtual Servers on the router, they also said i should give my friends the WAN ip address (67.85.x.x) so they can access my sites, they have tried and still cannot access my site, my questions is how does the router let my friends access my site with an 67.85.x.x address when the router has given me an address of 192.168.x.x any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance

Yes, you use port forwarding on the router (sometimes called virtual server) and forward the appropriate port to the internal LAN IP address of the PC providing the service.

Some common ports are:

FTP Server on your LAN
IN TCP 21

POP3 Mail Server on your LAN
IN TCP 110

SMTP Mail server" on your LAN
IN TCP 25

TELNET Server on your LAN
IN TCP 23

WEB Server on your LAN
IN TCP 80

There is a list of other ports here:
http://practicallynetworked.com/sharing/app_port_list.htm

To access the service from the WAN they use your WAN address and the port

e.g. 67.85.x.x:21
