I have a SMC Barricade 7004ABR NAT. It's a great little unit. However, I was recently configuring it for DHCP (it maps your pc's mac address to a given IP number). I got it working with one pc just fine... the second one, no matter what I tried I couldn't get it to work. Then I noticed that when I cut & pasted the mac address into the text box, it was truncating it by two characters! No wonder that wouldn't work!!! So I tried typing in the missing characters by hand. No dice. There simply wasn't space in the blank to accomodate them. YES, I'm using the most current firmware (sept 2002).

So the question is, is there some way to make this work, or am I just out of luck and have to get another NIC (hopefully with a shorter MAC address)?

:p Actually all you need to do is clone the MAC address of 1 pc, now if the other one cannot connect to the internet. try to check the IP address of the the computer thar cannot connect to the iinternet.and if still it wouldnt connect try releasing and renewing the IP address. or try this one:

1. make sure that the starting IP under the DHCP tab is set to 100

2. check the number of DHCP users, if it is in a single digit, try to place it on a double digit.

3. If you have any personal firewall or any anti virus disable that.

4. never forget to release and renew an IP

5. try changing the cables

6. try changing ports:D

That SMC is a simple machine set it all back to default and plug it in and plug to it and turn it on and it ready to go....:p

The 7004ABR has a table to enter MAC to IP mappings so that the LAN side DHCP serves out specific IPs to PCs with a given MAC.

The entry box accepts 12 alphanumeric characters (0-9,a-f). Do not put in ":" or "-". All MAC numbers are 12 hex digits. I have not seem any that are longer. Anything longer is probably not a MAC number.
