Computer cant see itself?!?!?

I've been trying for some time now to configure my two home computers for networking, in order to play games over them. I have one computer set up as computer A, one as computer B. Computer A seems fine, it sees itself in network neighbourhood, but doesnt see computer B. Computer B DOESNT see itself on network neighbourhood- but it sees computer A perfectly well?!?!? I thought this was a problem, but that games might still work on both of them. I've currently tried 2 games, quake 3 and warcraft 3. In BOTH of them u can create a game, and both of the computers can join, but as soon as it goes in game it crashes. Please could you help me find out how to get computer B to recognise itself, as this seems to be the problem.
P.S. ( ive given both of my computers viable ip's)
(ive given them both individual names, and the same WORKGROUp)
(ive checked theyre both using the same protocols TCP/IP Net Beui etc.)
(ive checked the cards themselves and theyre working fine)

I dunno about the games. You should check what protocols they need (I would guesss only TCP/IP).

You did not mention you had enabled Netbios over TCP/IP on each PC.
I assume you are running 98SE or ME.

Also check you have the latest updates:

Also check you have a network shared folder on each PC.
Also check you have no firewalls enabled.

Thanks for your reply, your website is very comprehensive. I checked and netbios is enabled. I think the problem i might be having is that i havent created a shared drive, could this be why one computer doesnt see itself? Also i dont seem to be able to create shared drives. I created a new folder called SHARED and right clicked and then clicked properties, there is no option for shared only for "general". Im using normal windows 98. Do i definetly need a shared drive for the network to work, i have a feeling this could be the problem.

A folder or printer must be shared on each computer for them to show up in your network neighborhood.

But if you do not see the Sharing Tab...thats a problem.
I don't use W98 so I don't know how to make the Sharing tab appear.

If there is no option to share the folder by right clicking on it, make sure you have File & Print Sharing installed (Right click Network Neighborhood in 98/98SE or My Network Places in WinMe). If it is installed, remove it then re-install. Thats all there is to it.
